The Myrtle Beach International Airport is looking forward to another banner year in 2012 as Boeing just finished testing its new Dreamliner 787 there on December 6, 2011. The appearance of the Dreamliner underscores big changes happening for Myrtle Beach.

Knights and Pirates

Even with many places in an all-out Christmas mode, two area house theaters -- Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, and Dolly Parton's "Pirates Voyage Fun Feast & Adventure" -- have their regular shows through December.

Medieval Times, which serves meals in front of knights dueling on horseback, has shows at 6 pm Friday - Saturday, Tuesday - Thursday, and December 24 - 25 and 27 - 30, as well as 5:45 pm December 31. Tickets plus tax are: $50.95 for ages 13 and older, and $30.95 ages 12 and younger. The theater "castle" is just west of Myrtle Beach off U.S. 501 and George Bishop Parkway. Pirates Voyage, a dinner adventure aboard a ship set opened in June 2011, includes pirate battles, as well as mermaids and animal appearances. Show times are 6 pm Friday, Sunday, Thursday, and December 23, 26, 30, 31. 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm Saturday. 6 pm and 8 pm December 27, 28, 29. Preshow starts one hour beforehand. Tickets including tax are $45.77 or $51.22 for ages 12 and older. $23.97 or $29.42 for ages 4 through 11. Ages 3 and younger are free and sit on adult's lap. The theater is at the northern junction of U.S. 17 Bypass and U.S. Business 17 in Myrtle Beach, next to the Gilmore Auditorium "The Carolina Opry." Details at 497-9700 or 800-433-4401.
